Howsem Sans Typeface
Typeface Design:
Glyphs Software
Motion Graphics
Poster Design
Howsem Sans is a single style sans-serif. The adventurous curves and the exaggerated ink traps make it a bold display typeface.
ABCDEFGHIJKLMN
OPQRSTUVWXYZ
abcdefghijklmnopqrst

Unique Design
It is the first English typeface that is fully designed by me, and named after my name. Using a sharpie to draw on paper towels, the wafting strokes come from the desire to create fluent shapes on the rough surface. Thereinto, the uppercase “Q” is the “hero” of this typeface, establishing the visually conflicting style in which symmetrical forms like the perfect circle of the “Q” and rhetorical forms like its tail collide together.
Moreover, by adding the hyperbolic ink traps I break the predictable and consistent stroke weight of each letter. The ink traps also enrich the reading experience to make the viewers’ eyes linger more on the types. The anti-traditional strokes and the decorative details make this typeface a good display font.

Motion Graphics
In order to showcase this typeface’s feature, I created an animated poster that reveals the possibility of using its unique geometric forms to create both still posters and motion graphics.
